4th September 2009 - More and better networking could prove fruitful for those looking for a senior position
Research, collated from 220 clients over the last three months, has shown that more than half (55 per cent) secured their current position through networking, while only 18 per cent found their role via advertisements or online.

A further 16 per cent secured their role through recruitment companies while interestingly 11 per cent chose to set up their own business.

The results show a significant shift in the way that people are approaching the job market with many individuals within senior positions now relying on relationships and building connections. Using the traditional approach to source opportunities within the job market is showing a diminishing return. Adopting the networking approach gives the individual an opportunity to create a role for themselves which provides a better fit for their skills and interests.

PCS Executive Marketing Manager, Caroline Dickin said: "Although networking has been the most successful route historically for executives and directors, we are now seeing more middle and senior managers adopt networking as the favoured route to market."

She added: "As a career management specialist we co-ordinate our own networking events, support our clients in identifying networking opportunities and reinforce the importance of key contacts, which ultimately helps them to find their next job role.
